Otto R. Bennig, 89, of 4622 N. 50th St., Town of Sheboygan, died at his home on Tuesday, April 3, 2007. Otto was born December 24, 1917 in Altona, Germany, the son of the late Otto and Hedwig (Maas) Bennig. Otto was a 1935 graduate of Sheboygan High School. Otto married Esther Kuehnast in Humboldt, Iowa on August 21, 1940. Otto was plant superintendent at General Machinery Corp in Sheboygan for 36 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler where he served on the Board of Education. Otto previously was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Wilson where he was Sunday School Supt. and teacher, choir director and was on the Board of Education. Otto was a Scout Master; a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He enjoyed baseball and was a Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, watching television and going to his cottage up north. Survivors include his wife, Esther; one daughter, Patricia Alexander of Savanah, Georgia; two sons, Otto Jr. (Mary) Bennig of Garden Valley, Idaho, John (Deborah) Bennig of Sheboygan; nine grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Ray Warrington of Odessa, Texas. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jutta Warrington, Ingrid Ponath; and a brother, Donald Bennig. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler, with the Rev. Robert Steele, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund will be established in his name for Lutheran World Relief or the Charity of Choice. Online condolences may be sent to wenig@wenigfuneralhome.com.
