Oscar Daylong, 90, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Sunny Ridge Health Care Center in Sheboygan. Oscar was born on September 24, 1921 in Bourbon County, KS, son of Blyth and Ida (Guder) Daylong. He served in the US Army in WW II, stationed in Hawaii and then in Saipan, South Pacific. On May 31, 1947 he married Margie C. Whittaker-Gutscher in Pittsburg, KS. Margie preceded him in death on June 28, 2002. Oscar was employed with the street department in Holdrege, NE from 1947-1970 and then in Kearney, NE from 1970-1979. Most recently, he was employed as Custodian for St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan from 1979 until the time of his retirement in 1985. Oscar was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan, where he served as Hospitality Engineer. He volunteered his services with the Salvation Army and Sunny Ridge. Oscar loved making people smile and enjoyed making new friends. He will always be remembered as a trickster and being very devoted to his wife Margie. Oscar is survived by his son, Rev. Dr. William (Rev. Sheryl) Daylong of Mt. Vernon, IA; three grandchildren, Blyth Daylong, Lon Daylong and Belinda (LaVerne) Dearborn; three step-grandchildren, Richard (Dana) Miller, Mark (Sheri) Miller and Patricia Miller; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Shelbie and Courtney Miller, Madison Davis and LaVerne Allen Dearborn, Jr. Oscar is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Oscar was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margie, his parents, and a great-grandson, Alex Daylong. Memorial services for Oscar will be held at a later date.
