Norman J. Tenpas, 85, formerly of Oostburg, died Tuesday morning, January 15, 2008 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility where he had resided for the past seven years. Norman was born May 14, 1922 in the Town of Lima, the son of the late Harvard and Della (Ebbers) Tenpas. Norman was a 1940 graduate of Oostburg High School, Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1944, and the Western Theological Seminary in 1947. On August 21, 1945, Norman married the late Marian E. Sandee in Gibbsville. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2000. On September 19, 1947 Norman was ordained with the Reformed Church in America. He served as pastor at Hamlin Reformed Church in Castlewood, South Dakota from 1945-51. Later he moved back to Sheboygan County. He worked at Richardson Bros for 1952-61and later as a machine tool operator at Kohler Co. and Hayssen Mfg. before retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg and the Oostburg Kiwanis. Norman enjoyed writing, reading, woodworking, and photography. Survivors include four sons, Carl (Colleen) of Ballwin, MO, David (Barbara) of Green Bay, Barry (Diane) of Germantown and Jay (Jill) of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, Erica (Ryan) Wade, Tracy (Ricky) Vargas, Tanya, Luke, Michael, Sarah, Mitchell Tenpas; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Alexa Wade; two brothers, Floyd (Geraldine) Tenpas of Oostburg and Lloyd (Margie) Tenpas of Sheboygan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; and one son, Allan Tenpas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg, with the Rev. Wayne DeVrou officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday, January 18, 2008 from 5-7 pm, and on Saturday, at church, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
