Norman Mentink

Norman G. Mentink, 81, of Oostburg, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.Norman was born on July 4, 1936, in Oostburg, son of Garret and Janet (Huibregtse) Mentink in Oostburg.  He was a 1954 graduate of Oostburg High School.  Norman served in the US Navy from 1954-1957.  On June 27, 1958, he married Faye Eernisse in Oostburg.  Norman was employed as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways for 30 years until his retirement in 1989.  During retirement, Norman, along with his wife, Faye, worked as missionary transporters for JAARS/Wycliffe Bible Translators for 10 years.Norman was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where he served as a deacon, elder, usher, and in the choir.  He was a member of the Men of Harmony, and was a three-time state champion in Truck Rodeos.  Norman enjoyed fishing, camping, reading, truck rodeos, and singing and music.Norman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye; two daughters, Susan (Tim) Wiech of Sheboygan and Lisa (Larry Jr.) Lockman of Sheboygan Falls; two sons, James Mentink of Oostburg and Todd (Carrie) Mentink of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Mark (Alicia) Wiech, Kelly Heard, Samantha Rideout, Larry Lockman III, Chad (Melissa) Mentink, Nichole (James) Fischer, Nicholas Mentink, and Alexander Mentink; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Mentink of Oostburg, Mary Humke of Austin, TX, and Carol Klarman of Oostburg; one brother, Arvin "Ike" Mentink of Sheboygan Falls; one brother-in-law, David (Debi) Eernisse of Duncanville, TX; and nieces and nephews.Norman was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lois Mentink, two brothers, Meryl and Robert (Barbara) Mentink; one sister-in-law, Helen Mentink; and two brothers-in-law, John Humke and Robert Klarman.A funeral service to celebrate Norman's life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating.  Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland.Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 4-8 pm, and on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.A memorial fund has been established in Norman's name for the Sharon S.
