Nelda Eernisse

Nelda Eernisse, 84, of 505 W. Center Avenue in Cedar Grove died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at her home. Nelda was born on August 28, 1925 in the Town of Holland, daughter of the late Albert and Esther (Brill) Prange. She attended River Valley Grade School and was a 1943 graduate of Cedar Grove High School. On November 6, 1946 she married Roger Eernisse in the Town of Holland. Roger preceded her in death on January 14, 2000. Nelda was employed with the Musebeck Shoe Factory for 18 years until her retirement in 1981. Nelda was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. She was active in the Ladies Aid, and Sunday School class; the Cedar Grove Senior Citizens, and served as a Red Cross volunteer. Nelda was faithful in visiting the sick and shut-ins. She enjoyed knitting, puzzles, dominos, cooking, reading, bicycling, and Saturday morning family get-togethers. Survivors include two daughters, Judy (John) DenBoer of Cedar Grove and Jane (Steve) Weavers of Oostburg; two sons, Wes (Diane) Eernisse of Plymouth and Terry (Patti) Eernisse of Cedar Grove; nine grandchildren, Michael (Wendy) DenBoer, Jill (Kevin) Scholten, Kim (Tom) Brill, Chris (Tabitha) Weavers, Peter Eernisse, Heidi (Jay) Nigen, Aaron Eernisse, Ryan Eernisse, Kayla Eernisse; two step-grandchildren, Teri (Damen) Phalin, Jon (Carin) TerMaat; eleven great grandchildren, Tony DenBoer, Hollie DenBoer, and Morgan DenBoer, Jesse Scholten and Andrea Scholten, Jacob, Megan, and Isaac Brill, Camren and Caden Weavers, Oliver Nigen; six step great-grandchildren, Austin, Gavin, Easton and Mason Phalin, Samantha Gonzales and Patience TerMaat; one sister Betty Oonk of Cedar Grove; and two sisters-in-law, Jean VanderJagt of Cedar Grove and Shirley Eernisse of Sheboygan; Nelda was preceded in death by her husband Roger; one grandson Matthew DenBoer; one great granddaughter, Alyssa DenBoer; and three brothers-in-law, Marvin Oonk and Eugene and Earl Eernisse. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11 am at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday from 3-7 pm, and on Friday, at church, from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
