Mildred C. Kaat, 93, formerly of Hingham, died early Sunday morning, October 25, 2009 at the Harbor House in Sheboygan where she had resided the past two years. Mildred was born on May 3, 1916 in the Town of Lyndon, the daughter of the late John and Lydia (Harmelink) Hoopman. She attended Hingham School and Oostburg High School. On May 3, 1939 she married the late Anthony G. Kaat in Hingham. He preceded her in death on February 26. 2007. She and her husband owned and operated the Hingham Grocery Store for over 20 years. Mildred was a member of the Hingham Reformed Church, the choir, and Mission Circle, and formerly attended Hingham Senior Citizens, Homemakers Club and a member of the Hingham Athletic Assoc. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed baking, sewing, embroidery and her family. Mildred is survived by three sons, David (Barbara) Kaat of Oostburg, Anthony (Carol) of Hingham, and Daniel (Ann) Kaat of Madison; a son-in-law, Gordon (Romaine) Bruggink of Oostburg; eleven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Alma Hoopman of Cedar Grove, Verna Hoopman of Sheboygan, Helen Kaat of Florida, and Althea Kaat of Oostburg; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Betty) Kaat of Rib Lake and Edward (June) Kaat of Plymouth. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Mariette Bruggink; and two brothers, Wilmer and Alvin Hoopman. Funeral services will be held at the Hingham Reformed Church at 6 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2009 with the Rev. Steven J. Bakker officiating. A family service will take place in the choir room at 5:45 pm. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hingham Reformed Church on Thursday from 4 pm until the time of the service.
