Merlin Moths

Merlin A. Moths, 90, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Libby's House in Plymouth where he resided for the past two weeks surrounded by his family. Merlin was born on November 22, 1921, in the Town of Fredonia, son of Alvin and Edna Olga (Schoedel) Moths. He was a 1938 graduate of West Bend High School and attended Sheboygan Business College. Merlin served in the US Army in Europe from 1943 - 1946. On October 4, 1947 he married Carol Katte in Sheboygan. Carol passed away on June 6, 2008. Merlin was employed as an accountant/comptroller at Bemis Manufacturing in Sheboygan Falls for 34 years until his retirement in 1981. Merlin was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan, where he was active as a trustee, district treasurer, and Sunday school treasurer. He was a charter member of Meadowland Credit Union, Sheboygan Falls Chamber of Commerce, and the Airport Transportation Committee. Merlin was on the Board of Directors of Sheboygan Falls Mutual Insurance and a Charter Member of Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis where he served as a past president and lieutenant governor. Merlin enjoyed traveling, music, the outdoors, his home in Door County, and loved his family. Merlin is survived by his son, Jeffrey (R. J. Kasalajtis) Moths of Whitefish Bay; his daughter, Debra (Duncan Adams) Moths of Kiel; two grandchildren, Logan (Amelia Cruver) Moths Adams of Minneapolis, MN and Gaar Moths Adams of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; one sister, Muriel Laufer of West Bend; and one sister-in-law, Dauna Moths; other relatives and friends. Merlin was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carol; his parents, and one brother, Eldon Moths. A memorial service to celebrate Merlin's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Sheboygan with Rev. Henry Verfuerth officiating. Entombment of cremains will take place in Gardens of Peace Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Merlin's name.
