Melvin E. Veldman, 102.5, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on June 3, 2023 at Pine Haven Christian Homes- Giddings Campus.
Born to Harko and Mayme (Schaap) Veldman in the Town of Sheboygan Falls on November 30, 1920, Melvin attended Plymouth Grade School and was a 1939 graduate of Plymouth High School.
Melvin faithfully served his country in the US Armed Forces in World War II from 1943 to 1946. Upon his return from service, he married Wilhelmina “Minnie” VanWyk on April 10, 1946. Wilhelmina preceded Melvin in death in March of 2018.
Melvin was a dedicated employee of Borden Foods for over 43 years where he worked as a skilled maintenance technician.
He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Sheboygan Falls where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and was involved in many missions’ trips over the years.
In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, electrical and machinist projects, gardening, and any card games. In 2012, he had the opportunity to go on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight- a very meaningful event for Melvin. Above all, Melvin cherished time with his family and friends.
Melvin is survived by his five sons, Timothy (Mary) Veldman of Plymouth, Mark (Pattie) Veldman of Plymouth, John (JoAnn) Veldman of Plymouth, Paul (Wanda) Veldman of Elcho, Thomas (Jackie) Veldman of Town of Mitchell; daughter, Sarah (Leif ) Erickson of Plymouth; daughter-in-law, Jean Veldman of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Van Wyk of Sheboygan Falls; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn VanWyk, and Marion VanWyk.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina Veldman; daughter, Lois Eischen; son, David Veldman; brother, Howard (Ruth Ann) Veldman; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne VanWyk, Peternella (Donald) Huibregtse, Claudia (Russell) Bresser; and four brothers-in-law, William VanWyk, Adrian VanWyk, Andrew (Catherine) VanWyk, Kunert VanWyk.
A Funeral Service to honor Melvin’s life will take place at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11:00 am with Rev. Brad Veenendaal presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Melvin’s honor for the First Reformed Church, Salvation Army, Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
