Melvin TenHaken, 95, of Oostburg and a longtime resident of Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls, passed away Monday morning, December 28, 2009 at Countryside Manor in Sheboygan where he had resided for the past year. Melvin was born December 7, 1914 in the Town of Holland, son of the late Garret and Johanna (Meerdink) TenHaken. On February 3, 1939 he married Marion Hendrikse at First Reformed Church in Oostburg. Marion preceded him in death on March 20, 1994. Melvin was employed at Dutchland Plastics for over fifteen years before his retirement. Previously he owned Cascade Sand and Gravel Pit for ten years and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Holland for over 20 years. Melvin was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg where he served as an usher and deacon. He enjoyed golf and bowling. Survivors include two daughters; Dianne (Richard) Staabs of Sheboygan and Joan Greiling of Wake Forest, NC; one son, Roger TenHaken of Oostburg; seven grandchildren, Jodi (Michael) Mitchell, Jon Staabs, Brenda (Adam) Westcott, David (Lauren) Menke, Adam (fiance' Kristy) Menke, Allan (Jenny) TenHaken, Dennis (Kristin) TenHaken; seven great grandchildren, Brandon Mitchell, Molly and Andrew Westcott, Erika Menke, Braden TenHaken, and Marissa and Sydney TenHaken; two sisters-in-law, Erna TenHaken and Jeanette (Wes) Heinen; and one brother-in-law, Harold (Audrey) Hendrikse, all of Oostburg. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; grandson, Dale TenHaken; daughter-in-law, Kay TenHaken; two sisters, Elda Onnink and Esther Ludens; six brothers, Jesse, Willis, Harvey, Herbert, Edwin, and Clarence TenHaken, and one sister-in-law, Beatrice Dulmes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11 am at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may call at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Saturday from 9am until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Melvin's name for Pine Haven Christian Home.
