Melanie R. Stokdyk, 93, of Sheboygan Falls, and formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Pine Haven Christian Home. Melanie was born on August 25, 1923, in the Town of Holland, daughter of Arthur and Louise (DuMez) Kolste. She attended Cedar Grove High School. On August 1, 1945, she married Kenneth Stokdyk in Oostburg. Melanie was employed as a cafeteria server for Oostburg Elementary School for 21 years until her retirement in 1989. Melanie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, needlepoint, gardening, and homemaking. Melanie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Kenneth; her daughter, Bonnie (Jay) Hesslink of Sheboygan; her son, Kim (Stacy) Stokdyk of the Town of Meeme; three grandchildren, Jan (Rachel) Hesslink, Valerie Hesslink (Mark Hill), and Zachary Stokdyk (fiancé Kellyn); and three great-grandchildren, Samantha Gartman, Kyra Hesselink, and Parker Schneider. Melanie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Orville (Gladys) Kolste. Funeral services to celebrate Melanie's life will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11am with Rev. Brian Jacobson officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 9am until the time of service at 11am. A memorial fund has been established in Melanie's name for Pine Haven Christian Homes. The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is honored to serve Melanie's family.
