Maude Leonhardt

Maude F. Leonhardt, 93, a longtime resident of Sheboygan went home to her Lord while residing at Morningside Health Center on Saturday evening, May 23, 2009. She had been a resident of Pine Haven Christian Home for ten years. Maude was born on January 5, 1916 in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Jacob and Jennie (Hoogesteger) Baarendse. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1934. On July 1, 1939 she married the late Henry Leonhardt at Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2003. Maude was a devoted homemaker to her family. She worked as a telephone operator for Wisconsin Telephone Co. for a short time in her early years. Maude was a lifelong member of the Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan, and its choir and Women's Guild. She was also a member of the Sheboygan Christian Women's Club. Maude enjoyed embroidery, entertaining family and friends, and cookouts in the backyard. One of her favorite times was Saturday mornings with her children and grandchildren. In her early retirement years she enjoyed winter months in Florida and Texas. Maude will always be remembered for her love of people and kind heartedness. Maude is survived by two daughters, Jean (Ronald) Long and Ruth (Marvin) Niemuth, both of Sheboygan; two sons, Brian (Rosie) and James (Vicki) Leonhardt, both of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Sheila (Tim) Barger of Sheboygan, Curt (Tomaro) Leonhardt of Madison, Brenda Leonhardt of Oostburg, Dean Kolbe of Sheboygan, Troy (Jennifer) Black of Georgia, Tara (Rob) Heusterberg of Tennessee, Cory (Robin) Leonhardt of Sheboygan, Jenny (Dolf) DeCuester of Janesville; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Janet (Emery) LaTarte of Sheboygan; one brother, Richard (Elsbeth) Baarendse of Sheboygan; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Baarendse of Sheboygan. Maude was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; and one sister, Frances Barends; and two brothers, Cornelius (Bonnie) and Dave Baarendse. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday, May 28, 2008 at 11 am with the Rev Bruce Wilterdink officiating. Entombment will take place at the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in the Town of Sheboygan. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday from 9 am until the time of the service at 11am.
