Mary Ann Gerber, 89, formerly of Plymouth, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Pine Haven Christian Home, where she resided the past 4 ½ years. Mary Ann was born on November 4, 1922, in the Town of Rhine, daughter of the late Ernst and Ella (Hungsberg) Mayer. She was a 1940 graduate of Elkhart Lake School as valedictorian of her class. On July 19, 1941, she married Gustave Gerber Jr. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in the Town of Rhine. The couple settled in Marshfield for a short time, then relocated to Plymouth. Gustave passed away on February 22, 1999. When her children were raised, she was employed as an executive secretary at General Telephone Company in Plymouth. In Mary Ann's retirement, she served as secretary at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth for 18 years. Mary Ann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, where she was a member of the Valpo Guild. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, bridge, dominoes, and cooking. Most importantly, Mary Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, words of encouragement, that warm smile, and her ability to bring sunshine to all fortunate enough to have known her. Mary Ann was a gracious woman whose love for her family matched their love for her. Mary Ann is survived by her five children: two sons, Donald (Hilda) of Sheboygan, Glenn (Marty) of Sturgeon Bay and three daughters, Bonnie Gerber of Sheboygan, Betty (Ron) Kalk of Sheboygan Falls, and Denise (Carl) Knapp of Plymouth; nine grandchildren, David (Jill) Gerber, Debbie (Eric) Rasmussen, Marci (Troy) Butterfield, Tanja (Jason) Kaneshiro, Melissa (Andy) Selk, Arika (Matt) Bertucci, Christopher (Robin) Kalk, Shawn (fiancé Pearl) Davis, and Jonathan Davis; nine great-grandchildren; Ben and Griffin Gerber, Sterling and Trinity Butterfield, Ryan and Evan Rasmussen, and Masee, Ryan, and Carter Selk. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Mayer of Plymouth. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gustave, and her brothers, Ralph, Robert (Bea), and Norman Mayer.
