Mary Lammers

Mary A. Lammers, 70, of Oostburg, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice following a brief illness. Mary was born on December 19, 1943 in Sheboygan, a daughter of the late Dewey and Mary (Blok) Wensink. She attended Gibbsville Grade School and graduated from Oostburg High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Donald Lammers on April 10, 1965 at Gibbsville Reformed Church in Gibbsville, Wisconsin. They established their home in the village of Oostburg, Wisconsin where they raised their family and resided the rest of her life. Mary is survived by her husband Donald and their children Jeffrey (Brenda) Lammers and Jill (James) Molter, of Oostburg; grandchildren Kaitlyn Molter (fiance' Jacob Rauwerdink), Justin Molter, Jordan Molter, Austin Lammers and Kayla Lammers. She is further survived by her two brothers Melvin (Donna) Wensink and Ronald (Shirley) Wensink, both of Gibbsville; one sister, LaVerne Dulmes of Oostburg; one brother-in-law Wayne (Lynn) Brasser, of the Town of Lima and one sister-in-law Joan Lammers of Oostburg. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Mary Wensink; parents-in-law Earl and Janet Lammers; a sister Audrey (Wensink) Brasser, brothers-in-law Warren Dulmes and Philip Lammers; and infant grandsons, Alex, Sean and Jacob Lammers. Mary worked at Northside State Bank in Sheboygan for several years after graduation from high school, and then in 1966 she became a stay-at-home mom to give her full attention to their growing family. As their children matured Mary worked part-time at various jobs outside of their home. She worked part-time at Oostburg Family Dentistry for more than 25 years, retiring in 2012. Mary's love of people made her especially well-suited for her position at the front desk and phone; she thoroughly enjoyed each day. Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Oostburg and was actively involved in many ways over the years; including Church Secretary, Youth Group counselor, Women's Ministry leader, Sunday School and Bible Class teacher, singing in the choir, and just ready to lend a hand or lead wherever needed. Mary had a warm, caring, servant heart with a genuine love for people that was always accompanied by her beautiful smile. She enthusiastically embraced her roles as wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed bringing a meal or her baked treats to shut-ins or anyone who might need a little extra loving. She was a hard-working, multi-tasker who also knew how to relax and devote quality time with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time at their cottage near Eagle River and was always ready to participate in recreational activities such as hiking, traveling on their motorcycle, water skiing or swimming in the lake with her grandchildren. The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) was clearly evident in Mary's life and her strong faith in her Lord and Savior provided her with a confident contentment. For many years Mary volunteered at Mary's Room, a non-denominational, pro-life outreach organization which provides clothing, diapers and baby items for newborns and toddlers, and provides support to needy mothers and families in Sheboygan County. Mary's Room also provides layettes to local hospitals for distribution to needy mothers of newborns. Mary served as Treasurer of this organization and assembled the layettes. A celebration of Mary's life will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg on Monday evening, September 29, 2014 at 6 pm with the Rev. Brian Jacobson officiating. A private family burial service will take place on Monday morning at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland, therefore the casket will not be present on Monday evening at the church prior to the service. Friends may visit the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 2-7 pm, and on Monday evening, at the church from 5pm until the time of the service at 6pm. Memorial gifts may be given in Mary's name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Mary's Room of Sheboygan, Inc. Mary's family extends a special Thank You to the staffs of Oostburg Ambulance, Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center's Emergency and ICU departments, and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their loving care for Mary. The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving the Lammers family.
