Marvin "Stormy" Jay Soerens, 94, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Windmill Beach where he spent the best 52 years of his life, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Cedar Grove Gardens.Stormy was born on May 15, 1924, in Cedar Grove, to Gerrit William and Mary (TenPas) Soerens. He attended Cedar Grove High School. Stormy served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1943 - 1946, he was stationed in North Africa and Italy with the infantry, receiving a purple heart in 1944. On July 2, 1949, Stormy married Vera Nelson in Sheboygan, she preceded him in death on October 17, 2017. Stormy was employed at JM Bruce Foundry as a foreman in the core room. After his retirement he worked at Dirkse Piggly Wiggly in Cedar Grove until he was 90 years old.Stormy attended St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, and was a 72 year member of the American Legion Post 338. Stormy was able to go on the Honor Flight in 2010, which he said was thrilling. Stormy was a wonderful story teller and enjoyed chopping wood, fishing, watching and feeding birds, drinking old fashions with friends, taking walks through town and by the lake, and dancing with his favorite dance partner, Vera. Stormy is survived by his two daughters, Christine (Michael) Buzaitis of Sheboygan, and Elizabeth (Anthony) Sproehlich of Grafton; five grandchildren, Robert Buzaitis, Steven Buzaitis, Jonathon (Cathy) Buzaitis, Ryan (special friend Amber) Lynch, and Thomas Lynch; two great-grandchildren, Lennon Buzaitis, Avery Buzaitis; and three sisters-in-law, Doris (Norman) Nickel, Nancy Nelson, Lesa Nelson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Stormy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; three brothers, Norbert (Josephine) Soerens, Gerald (Delia and Arlene) Soerens, and William (Joyce) Soerens; one sister, Phyllis (Eugene) Velier; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeannette (Howard) Sasse, LaVerne (Al) Balthazor, Robert Nelson, and James Nelson. A memorial service with Military Honors to celebrate Stormy's life will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 4pm at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg. An inurnment will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date.Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 3pm until the time of service at 4pm.
