Marvin Jay Potter

Marvin Jay Potter, 86, of Oostburg, went to be home with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Marv was born to Jacob and Jeanette (Veldboom) Potter on September 9, 1938. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1956. On July 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Beverly Debbink in the Town of Lima. Marv worked in the office at JM Bruce Foundry for many years before working at the American Club until his retirement.

Marvin was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg. Marv was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, despite all the teasing. He enjoyed listening to hymns on the radio, playing cards and Sudoku puzzles. Marv loved golfing, bowling, and anything to do with sports. He served on the boards for Pine Haven, Holland Mutual, and Hartman Cemetery.

Marv is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly; children Cindy (David) Obbink of Cedar Grove, Tim (Susan) Potter of Woodstock, Georgia; grandchildren Jacob (Melissa) Obbink, Samantha (Jon) Fredach, Ross (Holly) Obbink, Ally Potter, Will Potter; great-grandchildren Hayden and Landon Obbink, Camryn Norgel, Owen Obbink, Autumn Potter, Zachary Fredach, and Zoe Fredach; siblings, Geraldine Vander Ploeg, Glenn (Sally) Den Hollander, Jean (Larry) Lukens; siblings-in-law, Nancy (LaMont) Rauwerdink, Donald (Ginny) Debbink; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob Potter and Jeanette (Ellsworth) Den Hollander, parents-in-law Ellis and Arlie Debbink, infant daughter and son, sisters-in-law Carolyn (Wayne) Van Driest and Alvera (Richard) Zwart, and brother-in-law Carl Vander Ploeg.

A memorial service to celebrate Marv’s life will be held at First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest at Hartman Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at church from 9:00am until the time of service.

Memorials are appreciated in Marvin’s name to Oostburg Christian School or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
