Marvin Kaland

Marvin H. Kaland, 87, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Friday evening, May 20, 2011 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Marvin was born on February 1, 1924 in Cedar Grove, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Ketman) Kaland. He was a 1942 graduate of Cedar Grove High School. Marvin served in the US Army during WW II from 1945-1946, stationed in Los Alamos, New Mexico. On July 3, 1947 he married Ann Daniel at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Arlington, VA. Marvin was co-owner/operator of M & R Motors in Cedar Grove for over 30 years until his retirement in 1989. Marvin was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. He was involved in the sportsman club in Cedar Grove. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, shooting trap, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family. Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann; his son, Roger (Mary Kay) Kaland of Sun Prairie, WI; four grandchildren, David (Mee Soon Langohr) Kaland, Michael Kaland, Michelle Kaland and Joanna (Nicholas) West. Marvin is also survived by nephews and other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, one son Mark Kaland, one sister Florence Winkelhorst and one brother Louis Kaland. Funeral services to celebrate Marvin's life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 2:30 pm at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Interment will take place in Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 4:00 pm until 7:30 pm and also on Tuesday from 1:30 pm until the time of the service at 2:30 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Marvin's for First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove.
