Marvin DeRoo, 79, of Cedar Grove passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls.Marv was born on March 13, 1938 in Iowa to Henry and Carrie (VanderGreen) DeRoo. He was a 1946 graduate of Western Christian High School in MN. He served his country in the US Air Force.  On June 18, 1972 he married Betty Strnad. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2010. Marv was a trouble shooter for P & H in Milwaukee and later worked for Samsung and Grove Cranes, from which he retired in 2003.Marv was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg where he served as a deacon, usher, and a cadet leader. He also sang in the church choir and volunteered at the Good as New Shop in Cedar Grove and helped the church with various maintenance projects. He was an avid Packer "backer", and loved fishing, especially his fishing trips to Canada. He was known for tinkering with small engines, he could fix anything you brought to him and making homemade ice cream.Marv is survived by his children; Dave VanMalsen of Costa Mesa, CA, Glenda (Tim) Regan of Hastings, MN, Dawn (Doug) DeRoo-Arndt of Andover, MN, Vicki (Todd) Emanuel of Ham Lake, MN, Mark DeRoo of St. Paul, MN, Michelle DeRoo-Pugh of Sheboygan and Kristina DeRoo of Sheboygan Falls; grandchildren, Jenny, Christopher, Adam, Ashley, Andrea, Emma, Becki, Brittany, Kayla, Joshua, and Makayla; great grandchildren, Courtney, Tommy, Alyssa, and Meika; four sisters, Joan DeJongh, Carmen (Don) VanZee, Sharon Melin and Connie (Herman) TeBrake; two brothers, Lloyd (Dorothy) DeRoo and Allan DeRoo. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Marv was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty; brother, Wilmer; two brothers-in-law, Preston DeJongh and Donovan Melin; and one grandson, Daniel VanMalsen.A funeral service to celebrate Marv's life will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10am at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Drew Zylstra officiating. Burial will be at Hartman Cemetery.Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 4-7pm and again at the CHURCH on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 9am until the time of service at 10am.A memorial fund is being established for Good as New in Cedar Grove and Pine Haven Christian Homes in Marv's name.For online condolences and additional information please visit www.wenigfh.com The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is assisting Marv's family with arrangements.
