Martin DeVriend

Martin DeVriend, 85, of 1622 Stahl Road, Sheboygan died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 7, 2010. Martin was born on January 16, 1925 in Sheboygan, the son of James and Minnie (Doelder) DeVriend. He married Muriel J. Meerdink on August 25, 1950 in Oostburg. Muriel preceded in him in death on October 2, 2003. Martin retired from the Kohler Co. in 1987 following 23 years of service. Martin was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg. He was a volunteer for various service projects at Kohler Terry Andre State Park and in the community. He enjoyed riding his scooter, snowmobiling, boating, and car racing, going for car rides, and traveling. He cherished time he could spend visiting at Kohler Terry Andre State Park. Martin is survived by one daughter, Donna (Ron) Lorier of Howards Grove; one son, Michael (Linda) DeVriend of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Spencer, Christian and Vanessa Lorier, Jennifer (Jason) Weiss, Joel (Tanya) DeVriend, Shawn (Melanie) DeVriend, Joshua DeVriend, and Ryan (fiancé Samantha) DeVriend; eight great grandchildren, Annabelle, Elise, and Charlotte Weiss, Ariana and Sydney DeVriend and Miles, Celene, and Hannah DeVriend; three sisters, Joanne Rosenthal of Sheboygan, Pearl Shans of California, and Sophie (Elmer) Wentz of Sheboygan; and one brother, William (Jane) DeVriend of Sheboygan Falls. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; one sister, Corrine (Ralph) Katt; and two brothers, John and Adrian (Lydia) DeVriend. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11 am at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Wayne DeVrou officiating. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Friends may greet the family at the church on Friday from 9 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
