Marlys Jensema

Marlys Jensema, 83, of Oostburg died peacefully with her family at her side on Friday afternoon, April 4, 2014 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan following a courageous battle with cancer. Marlys was born on September 8, 1930 in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Alva and Katie (Huibregtse) Rauwerdink. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1947. On September 20, 1950 she married LaMont Jensema in Gibbsville. Marlys was a devoted homemaker and an Avon Representative for 37 years up until the time of her death. Previously, she also worked at Gibbsville Cheese and was an aide at the Oostburg Elementary School. Marlys was a lifelong member of the Gibbsville Reformed Church and active in the Bethany Circle and served as church librarian and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed collecting dishes, reading, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, camping, playing board and card games. She and LaMont travelled to 48 states (all except Hawaii and Oregon) and loved attending church and family events. Above all, she especially enjoyed those activities which included her children and grandchildren. Marlys is survived by her husband, LaMont, of Countryside Manor; three daughters, Judy (Burt) TenPas of Oostburg ,Joan Jensema (Linda Peel) of McHenry, Illinois, and Jill (Mike) Posewitz of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Stephen, Jamie (Tanya) TenPas, Kami (Brian) Hagel, Krista Jensema, Jaslyn, Camber, and Blake Posewitz; four great grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Stephen, Bryce and Nolan TenPas; one brother, Ronald (Harriet) Rauwerdink of Oostburg; three sisters-in-law, Marie Jensema and Carol Jensema, both of Oostburg and Florence Jensema of Sheboygan; many nieces and nephews. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jerry Jensema, and a grandson, Nicholas Jensema. A funeral to celebrate Marlys' life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Gibbsville Reformed Church with the Rev. John Ornee officiating. A family service will precede in the choir room at 10:15 am. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday from 4-8 pm, and on Wednesday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30.
