Marlene Berke

Marlene Joan Berke, 81, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Marlene was born on April 20, 1937, in Fox Point, to Elmer and Rena (Habermann) Maechtle. She was a 1955 graduate of Shorewood High School. On April 27, 1957, Marlene married Helmut Berke in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2002.  Following graduation Marlene was a secretary for Mill Print in Milwaukee. In the spring of 1970, Marlene became the office manager for Berke Electric/Refrigeration until she retired in 2002.  Marlene enjoyed doing puzzles, playing board games and card games, sewing, baking, collecting dolls, reading, spending time outdoors, studying history and traveling across Wisconsin to visit historical sights, and playing piano. She loved her cats and spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Marlene is survived by her son, Steven (Judy) Berke; two daughters, Christine (Richard) Waterbury and Annette (David) Leraaen; daughter-in-law, Patricia Berke; nine grandchildren, Perry Heikkinen, Frank Heikkinen, Julia Showers, Scott (Julie) Meanor, Nathanael Waterbury, Rebecca (Derric) Smith, Jennifer Leraaen, Chad Berke, and Collin Berke; six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hunter, Emma, Landon, Ava and Caleb. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmut Berke; son, Dean J. Berke; three brothers, Wilfred (Alma) Maechtle, Jerry (Laurel) Maechtle, and Kenneth Maechtle; and parents-in-law, Edward and Melitta Berke.  A memorial service to celebrate Marlene's life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 12 pm at Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Pastor Donna VanOrden officiating.
