Marion Dirkse

Marion "Mary" J. Dirkse, 86, formerly of Hingham, went to her eternal home on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Gables on the Pond in Random Lake. Mary was born on October 6, 1924 in Sheboygan, the daughter of Elmer and Alice (Ten Haken) Hopeman. She was a 1942 graduate of Oostburg High School. On August 17, 1945 she married Wesley E. Dirkse in Hingham. Wesley preceded her in death on September 25, 1995. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hopeman's, Inc in Hingham, the Hingham Cheese Factory, and W. Dirkse Memorials. Mary was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church where she was active in the choir. She volunteered at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Mary was also active with Lay Witness Mission Teams and participated in Prison Fellowship Bible studies at KMCI. Mary is survived by two daughters, Judy (Barry) Huibregtse of Hingham and Norine (Rev. Tom) Katsma of Boise, ID; one son, Rodney (Sherry) Dirkse of Hingham; eight grandchildren, Damon (Michelle) Huibregtse, Greg (Robin) Dirkse, Rev. Pat (Julie) Dirkse, Heath, Nathan, Scott, Jason and Amy (Jake) Jansen; four great-grandchildren, Braden, Caris, Cade, and Joshua Dirkse; one sister, Viola Dolfin of Kalamazoo, MI; one brother, Warren (Peg) Hopeman of Glendale Heights, IL; one brother-in-law, LaMont (Ruth) Dirkse of Holland, MI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wesley; son Dean Dirkse; sister-in-law Mae Ann Hopeman; and brother-in-law Rev. Fred Dolfin. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Hingham Reformed Church with the Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. Private family interment will be in Hingham Cemetery prior to the celebration service. If you are unable to attend the celebration service the family invites you to join them for a fellowship gathering following the service from 2:45-4:30 p.m. in the church narthex. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's name for City Church of Compton in Compton, California, Valley Life Community Church in Boise, Idaho, and Prison Fellowship International. Mary's family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the excellent care she received at Gables on the Pond for the last 5 years.
