Marie Hanson

Marie H. Hanson, 93, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Plymouth Care Center. Marie was born on February 26, 1920, in Alpha, MI, daughter of Carl and Olga (Hakansson) Kasten. She was a 1937 graduate of Florence High School in Florence, WI. On September 10, 1938 she married Clifford Hanson in Sheboygan. Clifford passed away on March 4, 1994. Marie was employed as a Nurses Aide at Sunny Ridge Health Care Center for 16 years retiring in 1986. Marie was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She loved spending summers at the family farm in Florence, where she was born and raised. Some of Marie's lifetime joys were meeting her relatives from Sweden who visited the family farm in 1981, as well as the family reunion she attended in Sweden in 1988. Marie also enjoyed sewing and gardening. Marie is survived by her two sons, Cliff (Joan) Hanson of Sheboygan and Curtis (Pat) Hanson of Brightwood, VA; one granddaughter, Heather (Joe) Leibham of Sheboygan; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, William, and Lucy Marie Leibham; and one sister, Grace Goff of Garden City, MI. Marie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her relatives in Sweden. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Clifford; her parents; and seven siblings, Charlotte Miller, Conrad Kasten, Doris Taft, Mildred Noyes, Henry Kasten, Ann Novak, and Marjorie Meyer. Funeral services to celebrate Marie's life will be at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Frederick Jabs officiating. Interment will take place in Commonwealth Cemetery in Florence, WI, at a later date. Relatives and friends may greet Marie's family from 4:00 pm until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Marie's name for St. Thomas Lutheran Church Building Fund and Student Aid.
