Margaret M. "Margie" Hendrikse, 84, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Pine Haven Covenant Home in Sheboygan Falls. Margaret was born on April 6, 1929 in the Town of Holland, daughter of John and Mary (Theune) VanEss. She attended Lakeview School and was a 1947 graduate of Oostburg High School. On June 30, 1949, she married Erwin J. Hendrikse in Oostburg. Erwin passed away on August 8, 2013. Margaret was primarily a devoted homemaker for her family. She also worked at Daane Red Owl Grocery Store, Oostburg Bakery, Knotty Pine and Sunny Ridge Nursing Home. Margaret was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg, the Eunice and Martha Societies, and served as the meal coordinator for shut-ins for many years. Margaret was also a member of the Oostburg Christian School Circle and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer for many causes. Margaret enjoyed extensive travel with her husband throughout the United States, gardening, baking and going for walks. Margaret is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Larry) Van Arendonk of Pella, IA, Carol (Michael) Eischen of Columbus, OH, and Chris (James) Hoeflich of Carpentersville, IL; two sons, Steve (Sue) Hendrikse of Oostburg and Scott (Anne) Hendrikse of Sheboygan; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lenore LeMahieu of Oostburg; one brother, Lloyd VanEss of Oostburg; four sisters-in-law, Nelda VanEss of Sheboygan Falls, Donna VanEss, Helen VanEss, and Annette Hendrikse, all of Oostburg; and two brothers-in-law, Richard (Jean) Hendrikse of Oostburg and Peter Koskamp of Independence, IA. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Erwin; her parents, two grandchildren, John and Rebecca Hendrikse; two sisters, Lauretta (Allen) TeStroote and Janet (Les) Bloemers; and five brothers, James, Isaac (Esther), Howard (SueAnn), Robert, and Carl VanEss. Funeral services to celebrate Margaret's life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 17, 2014, at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg with Rev. Tom Pettinga officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also on Monday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Margaret's name for Oostburg Christian School, Sheboygan County Christian High School, and Pine Haven Christian Communities.
