Marcia E. Draayers, 88, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Cedar Grove Gardens where she resided the past six years. Marcia was born on September 28, 1923, in the Town of Holland, daughter of Harry and Mary (Huibregtse) TerMaat. Marcia graduated as valedictorian from the Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove and then attended Sheboygan Business College for one year following high school. On July 30, 1946, she married Leslie H. Draayers in the Town of Holland. Marcia met Leslie at a community baseball game and always said that he was the most handsome man she had ever met. Her marriage of 53 years to Leslie was one of utter love, devotion, and faith. Leslie passed away on November 27, 1999. Marcia worked at H. C. Prange Co. in Sheboygan for several years prior to her marriage and then worked in the office for the Cedar Grove Cooperative Exchange for many years prior to her retirement. Marcia was an active and devoted member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where she strove to do the Lord's work in many capacities including leading various Bible Studies. Simple things brought the most joy to Marcia - spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking, sewing, needlework, traveling and patiently playing board games with her grandchildren. In the latter years of her life, she was a tremendous friend to her neighbors at the Cedar Grove Gardens, where she read aloud to other residents and offered a helping hand to anyone in need. During her life journey, Marcia brought the joy and peace of God to many, and will always be remembered by her family, friends, and community for her intelligence, grace, gentle wisdom, and quiet kindness. Marcia is survived by one daughter, Mary (Robert) Schuknecht of Port Washington; one son, Harris "Biff" (Sarah Keller) Draayers of Oostburg; four grandchildren, Vicki Smith, Jon (Sarah) Schuknecht, Harrison and Hannah Draayers; and two great grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith and Caitlyn Schuknecht; nieces and nephews. Funeral services to celebrate Marcia's life will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 3, 2012, at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Burial will take place at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 12:30 pm until the time of the service at 2:30 pm on Friday.
