Lowell E. Jensema, 60, of Gibbsville, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice following a courageous five month battle with lymphoma.. Lowell was born on May 17, 1956, in Sheboygan, son of Edward and Gertrude (Dekker) Jensema. He was a 1974 graduate of Oostburg High School. On October 22, 1977 he married Jennifer Vander Weele in Sheboygan. Lowell was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Home Excavating, Joosse Excavating, Wagner Excavating, and A & M Trees before his retirement earlier this year. Lowell was a lifelong member of Gibbsville Reformed Church where he served as property committee chairman, deacon, elder, and usher. He was also an active member of Farmers and Sportsmans Shooting Club, and the NRA. Lowell enjoyed all shooting sports. He was an accomplished shooter winning many high level awards and trophies throughout the state. He was instrumental in the development and creation of the park for the Gibbsville Athletic Association. He and his wife enjoyed many hours motorcycling and several memorable Florida vacations. Lowell also enjoyed helping and advising his family doing home repair and remodeling. Lowell is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jennifer of Gibbsville; three sons, Jerrod (Angela) Jensema of Gibbsville, Jason (Beth) Jensema and Joshua Jensema, both of Sheboygan Falls; five grandchildren, Lotus Raine, Patchouli Jase, Yarrow Sol Jensema and Lincoln and Estelle Jensema; two brothers, Roger (Martha) Jensema of Sheboygan Falls and Ron (Mary Lyn) Maner of Kingsport,TN; four sisters-in-law, Bonnie Markus of Sheboygan Falls, Darlene Maner of Sheboygan, Sandy (Mike) Hotz of Sheboygan and Phyllis Meengs of Door, MI; and brother-in-law, Philip (Suzie) Vander Weele of Sheboygan; many nieces and nephews. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Rickie Jensema and Larry Maner; two sisters-in-law, Diane Jensema and Charlotte Jensema; one brother-in-law, Ronald Meengs; a niece, Vanessa Jensema; and his parents-in-law, Wesley and Charlotte Vander Weele. A funeral service to celebrate Lowell's life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Gibbsville Reformed Church with Rev. David Krueger officiating. Private family burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima on Saturday morning PRIOR to the funeral service. Family and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also on Saturday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Lowell's name for the Gibbsville Reformed Church and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.
