Lloyd VanEss

Lloyd VanEss, 93, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday August 28, 2016 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Lloyd was born on July 1, 1923 to John and Mary (Theune) VanEss. On July 5, 1944 he married Doris Mentink; she preceded him in death on April 6, 1994. On April 19, 1997 he married Dorothy Meenk and they lived in Waupun for 15 years. Dorothy preceded him in death on December 14, 2012. Lloyd served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1946. He served in WWII, 18 months he was in combat. After the war, he worked in several different construction jobs and then at Bolens in Port Washington for 25 years before he retired. Lloyd was a member of Bethel OPC in Oostburg. He loved woodworking and made many projects and also helped build houses for his four children. Lloyd enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Lloyd is survived by two daughters, Gloria Roerdink and Vicki (Dan) Nyhof; two sons, Ron (Mary) VanEss and Dale (Linda) VanEss; one step daughter, Betty (Harlan) VandeSlunt; one step daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Sal) Maglio; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 14 step great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Nelda VanEss, Helen VanEss, Donna VanEss and Beatrice VanEss; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Mentink. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris; second wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, Herb Roerdink; grandson, Jeremy; brothers, Isaac (Esther), Howard (Sue Ann), Jim, Bob and Carl VanEss; sisters, Janet (Lester) Bloemers, Lenore (Lewis) LeMahieu, Loretta (Allan) TeStroete and Margaret (Ervin) Hendrikse and two sisters-in-law, Muriel Mentink and Marion (Paul) Tempas; brother-in-law, Irvin VanEss. A funeral service to celebrate Lloyd's life will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 1pm at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg, with Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 4-7pm at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and again on Wednesday at the church from 12pm until the time of service at 1pm. A memorial fund is being established in Lloyd's name for Bethel OPC and Oostburg Rescue Squad.
