Lloyd Walter Gartman, 92, of Sheboygan, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Lloyd was born on September 6, 1924, in Sheboygan to Anthony and Lilah (Rammer) Gartman in the Town of Wilson. He attended Harmony School and Oostburg High School. Lloyd served his country for two years in the United States Army 31st Infantry serving in Korea as a Mess Sergeant. On August 2, 1947, Lloyd married Lorraine Fritsch at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Wilson where he was a lifetime member.There served as Elder and Financial Secretary numerous times. He began his career working for the Sheboygan County Highway Department with the Bridge Building Crew. Following this, he and his wife began farming in the Town of Wilson- where their family farm is still in operation. During this time, he also served at Wilson Mutual Insurance where he served in various capacities for 36 years as Director, Secretary, and Director of the Wisconsin Town Mutual Insurance Companies Association. He represented the Town of Wilson where he served as Supervisor and Chairman. He also served on the Sheboygan County Board as a representative for the Town of Wilson. In his later years, he was elected as the Sheboygan County Board's Vice Chairman and he also served many years on the Sheboygan County Highway and Law Enforcement Committees. He was later elected as the Sheboygan County Highway Commissioner where he served for 17 years until his retirement. Under his tenure, he was instrumental in seeing expansive construction on Taylor Drive. He served as the Director of Citizens Bank of Sheboygan, now known as Wells Fargo Bank, for over 25 years until his retirement. Lloyd was also a longtime member of the Travelers Protective Association and Charter member of the Sheboygan Rotary West. Lloyd enjoyed reading the newspaper and keeping up with current events. He was a member of several card clubs, where he enjoyed playing Sheepshead and Skat. Above all, he enjoyed his working, spending time with his family, and dedicating his time to his community. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Lorraine Gartman of Sheboygan; one son, David (Clare) Gartman of Sheboygan; three grandsons, Anthony (Michelle) Gartman of Sheboygan, Ryan (Kimberly) Gartman of Cedar Grove, and Kevin Gartman of Sheboygan; four great-grandchildren, Justin Gartman, Monica Gartman, Sorrell Anderson, and Izaiah Anderson. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard Gartman, Louis Gartman, Rueben Gartman. A funeral service to celebrate Lloyd's life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Wilson with Rev. Shane Cota officiating. A burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Homes in Oostburg on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Thursday, at the CHURCH from 9:30am until the time of service at 11am. A memorial fund is being established in his name. Lloyd's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aurora at Home Hospice Team, especially Judy and Karen.
