Leora Verhage

Leora M. Verhage, 92, of Oak Ridge Senior Living in Stevens Point and formerly of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014. Leora was born on January 23, 1922, in Clark County, daughter of Frank and Luella (Boyer) Casper. She was a 1939 graduate of Plymouth High School. On June 21, 1944, she married Willard J. Verhage in Plymouth. Willard passed away on April 19, 2001. Leora was employed with Bemis Manufacturing for 19 years until her retirement in 1984. Leora was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. She volunteered with Greendale Health Care Center, the Sheboygan Falls food pantry, helped with bingo at church, and participated with the prayer chain. Leora enjoyed sewing, reading, card playing, singing and dancing, and polka music. Leora is survived by her son, David (Debi) Verhage of Plover; three daughters, Marilyn (John) Wirth of Largo, FL, Joan (James) Loersch of Sheboygan, and Rosemary (Scott) McCullough of New Berlin; five grandchildren, Robert Wirth, Donald (Jen) Wirth, Matthew (Sara) Verhage, Wendy (Jon) Kinney, and Heidi Verhage; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Verhage, Aislinn and Lily Verhage, Jaxson Wirth, and Josie and Janie Kinney; one sister, Helen Risch of Pine Haven Christian Home; and one brother, Emery (Ann) Casper of Plymouth. Leora was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Willard, her parents, her son, Robert Verhage, two brothers, and one brother-in-law. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Leora's life will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls. Relatives and friends may call at church from 4:00 pm until the time of Mass at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Leora's name for the American Alzheimer's Association and Blessed Trinity Parish.
