Leon R. Kaat, 83, of Sheboygan, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 29, 2023, at Countryside Manor.
Leon was born April 15th, 1939, in Sheboygan, WI, to the Leonard and Vivian ( Schultz) Kaat. He attended Sheboygan Area Schools and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
On November 17, 1962, Leon was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Van Dixhorn, at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls.
He owned and operated Monitor Maintenance for over 40 years and was the janitor of First Reformed Church for 25 years. Leon was an avid golfer – proud member of Town and Country golf course and Riverdale Golf Course where he obtained Club Champ on multiple occasions. Leon was also a member of the Sheboygan Jaycees where he served as chapter President.
Leon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; son, Timothy (Shari) Kaat of Sheboygan Falls; daughter, Amy (Kenneth) Van Wyk of Waldo, and grandchildren; Benjamin (Mallory), Samuel and Mary Van Wyk, Taylor Kaat, Amanda (Dean) Wingert; two great-grandchildren, Carter Van Wyk and Tanner Van Wyk; sister-in-law, Audrey Van Dixhorn; nieces, Lynn (David) Cook, Nancy Van Dixhorn, Jodi Van Dixhorn, Kim (Jeff) Nack; and a nephew, Tom (Lora) Van Dixhorn. He is further survived by other relatives and beloved friends.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Betty Jane Van Dixhorn; brothers-in-law, Jack Van Dixhorn, Chris (Pearl) Van Dixhorn, Donald Van Dixhorn, and Harold Van Dixhorn; and a nephew, Jeff Van Dixhorn.
A funeral service to honor Leon’s life will take place at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 am. A visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A private family burial will conclude at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
