Lenore J. LeMahieu, 98, of Oostburg, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. She had been a resident at Pine Haven Christian Home in Oostburg for the past 5 years. Lenore was born on September 3, 1916 in the town of Holland to John and Mary (Theune) VanEss. She was a 1934 graduate of Oostburg High School. On September 21, 1937 she married Lewis LeMahieu. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2000. Lenore found fulfillment in staying home and raising her family. When her children were grown she worked for 12 years at Musebeck Shoe Factory. Lenore was a charter member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg where she participated in Rebekah Society and taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Lenore took satisfaction in being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved spending many happy times with her family. She enjoyed doing crafts, especially crocheting an afghan for each of her 20 grandchildren, sewing and reading. Lenore is survived by her four daughters; Mary (William) Shaw of Green Bay, Doris (Arvin) Meerdink of Oostburg, Faye (Pastor Larry) TenHaken of Hazelhurst, WI and Kay (Bob) Wilterdink of Hingham; two sons, James (Donna) LeMahieu of Oostburg and Daniel (Rosemary) LeMahieu of Cascade; 20 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Van Ess; sisters-in-law, Nelda, Donna and Helen Van Ess, Fern and Penny LeMahieu. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Lewis; an infant daughter, Carol Ann; infant grandson, Ethan Shaw; sisters, Janet (Les) Bloemers, Lauretta (Allen) TeStroote, Margaret (Ervin) Hendrikse; brothers, James, Issac (Esther), Howard (Sueann), Robert, Carl Van Ess; sisters-in-law, Doris and Dorothy Van Ess A funeral service to celebrate Lenore's life will be on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:30 am at Bethel OPC in Oostburg, with Rev. John Shaw officiating. Burial will take place at the Oostburg Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 4-8pm and again on Friday, May 1, 2015 at church from 9:30am until the time of service at 10:30am. A memorial fund is being established in Lenore's name for Bethel OPC and Oostburg Christian School.
