Lavonne A. "Vonnie" Van Wyk, 73, of the Town of Lima died on Friday evening, November 16, 2012 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls following a courageous battle with cancer. Vonnie was born on April 25, 1939 in the Town of Holland, the daughter of the late Clarence and Alyce (Schreurs) Heinen. She attended Beaver Creek School and graduated from Oostburg High School in 1957. On December 18, 1964 she married John Van Wyk in the Town of Lima. Vonnie was a secretary for numerous businesses in Cedar Grove and Oostburg, as well as the Oostburg Post Office and Oostburg High School. Vonnie also worked as a housekeeper at Pine Haven Christian Home for several years. Vonnie was a lifelong member at Gibbsville Reformed Church where she sang in the choir, served as a Sunday school teacher and on the funeral lunch committee. She was also a very active volunteer at the Plymouth Salvation Army, where she served many meals on Thanksgiving and Easter throughout the local Plymouth churches. Vonnie was a poll worker for the Town of Lima. Vonnie had a passion for homemaking, needlework, her garden and especially flowers. She is survived by her husband, John; one daughter, Beth Marie Van Wyk of the Town of Lima; two sisters, A. Joan Heinen of Cedar Grove and Phyllis Ledeboer of Oostburg; two brothers, Wes (Jeannette) Heinen of Oostburg and Ralph Heinen of Cedar Grove; five sisters-in-law, Minnie (Melvin) Veldman of Plymouth, Peternella Huibregtse and Evelyn Van Wyk, both of Sheboygan Falls, Catherine Van Wyk of Sheboygan, and Marian Van Wyk of Apple Valley, CA; and one brother-in-law, Donald Hilbelink of the Town of Lima; many dear nieces and nephews. Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Peter and Elizabeth (Van Bergeyk) Van Wyk; a sister, Marlys Hilbelink; two sisters-in-law, Marion Heinen and Claudia (Russell) Bresser; and four brothers-in-law, William, Adrian, Andrew, Cunard Van Wyk, Donald Huibregtse, and Edward Ledeboer. A funeral to celebrate Vonnie's life will take place at the Gibbsville Reformed Church on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 6 pm with the Rev. John Ornee officiating. A family service will precede at 5:45 pm in the choir room. Private family burial will take place at the Gibbsville Cemetery on Tuesday. Family and friends will gather at the Gibbsville Reformed Church on Monday from 2 pm until the time of the service. Memorial funds are being established for the Salvation Army in Plymouth, Pine Haven Christian Home and the Gibbsville Reformed Church. The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg (920-564-2771) is serving the Van Wyk family.
