LaVerne Verhulst

LaVerne F. Verhulst, 99, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Pine Haven Assisted Living. LaVerne was born on November 26, 1915, in Sheboygan County, daughter of Lawrence and Minnie (Nyhof) Liezen. She attended Gibbsville Elementary School. On December 14, 1934, she married Eugene I. Verhulst in Gibbsville. Eugene passed away on April 19, 1984. LaVerne was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls where she was active in the church choirs. She was a member of the Town of Lima Homemakers. Laverne enjoyed playing the piano , dancing and playing cards. LaVerne is survived by her five daughters, Shirley Klas of Dacada, Sylvia Horn of Random Lake, JoAnn (Edward) Hintz of Beechwood, Muriel Degnitz of Adell, and Linda (James) Pickart of Mount Calvary; her two sons, Leonard Verhulst of Sheboygan and Kenneth (Patricia) Verhulst of Cleveland; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Loretta Gabrielse of Sheboygan; many nieces and nephews. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Eugene, one grandson, Dennis Horn, two granddaughters, Evelyn Byrum and Donna Hartmann, one great-grandson, Adam Dahm, one sister, Alvera (Harvey) Ongna, one brother, Ralph Liezen, three sons-in-law, Danny Klas, Donny Horn, and Norb Degnitz, and one brother-in-law, William Gabrielse. Funeral services to celebrate LaVerne's life will be held at 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in LaVerne's name for First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls.
