Kenneth Lonnie Messner, 66, of 727 June Grass Court, Plymouth and formerly of Kohler, died early Thursday morning, February 4, 2010, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Ken was born on March 2, 1943, son of the late Kenneth E. Messner and Alma (Richter) Messner. He was a 1961 graduate of Kohler High School. On October 13, 1962, he married Monica Wagner at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler. Ken was employed as a wood pattern maker with Kohler Company for 43 years until the time of his retirement in 2005. Ken was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, and formerly Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler, where he sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Kohler Fire Department, the Kohler Quarter Century Club and served on the Vince Lombardi Patient Advisory Committee. Ken's hobbies included woodworking, computers, yardwork, birds, singing, and family vacations. He will always be remembered for his strong faith, willingness to help others, and his generosity. Ken was all about others and never himself. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and instilled high values in his children and grandchildren. His family and friends would all agree that it was an honor to know him. Survivors include his wife, Monica; his mother, Alma Messner of Plymouth; two daughters, Melissa (Curt) Steinhaus of Glendale and Michelle (Tom) Bohm of Oostburg; one son, Michael Messner of Milwaukee; four grandchildren, Rachel and Kathryn Steinhaus and Brittany and Andrea Bohm; one sister, Debra (Jeff) Martin of Jackson, MO; one brother-in-law, Carl Allmann of Plymouth. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. Messner; his sister, Nancy Allmann; and his parents-in-law, Erwin and Katherine Wagner. A celebration of Ken's life will take place at the funeral service to be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 5:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth with the Rev. Nathan Meador officiating. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Kohler. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 5 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Ken's memory for the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, Bethany & St. John Lutheran Churches, and the Blood Center of Wisconsin.
