Karl Hoppe

Karl L. Hoppe, 75, of Chilton died at St Luke Medical Center in Milwaukee on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Karl was born on September 13, 1938 in Sheboygan, the son of the late Lester and Dorothy (Wuestenhagen) Hoppe. He attended Sheboygan Falls High School and then enlisted in the US Navy where he served from 1955-58. Karl married Janice Krause on September 23, 1960 in Jeffersonville, IN. Karl was a machinist at various companies for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton and formerly a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Howards Grove. Karl was an honorary member of the Howards Grove Athletic Assoc, charter member of Sheboygan County Ducks Unlimited, Smerkes Sportsman Club, secretary of numerous bowling leagues, served on the Pigeon River Clean-Up Project and was president of the Local UAW while working at Garton Toy. Karl enjoyed bowling, golf, trap shooting, small game hunting, deer hunting with his son and grandsons, playing cards and Sedoku. Karl was an avid Green Bay Packer and UW Badger fan. Annually he enjoyed filling out his NCAA basketball tournament brackets. He looked forward to perch fishing on Lake Winnebago with Kevin and Linda, ice fishing on South Twin Lake with dear friends, Robert and James Laack, and attending his grandchildren's sporting activities. Karl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janice of Chilton; one daughter, Jill (Rich) Lohr of Sheboygan Falls; one son, Kevin (friend Linda Rabe) Hoppe of Sheboygan; three grandsons, Matthew (Kristin) Lohr, Adam Lohr, Aaron Lohr; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Kaitlyn Lohr; five sisters, Virginia Radtke of Sheboygan Falls, JoAnn (Mike) Austreng of Cleveland, Gloria (Tom) Kanzelberger of Sheboygan Falls, Janice Krueger of Manitowoc, Susan Ebert of Florida; one brother, Ervin (Judy) Hoppe of Anchoarge, AK; one sister-in-law, Lois Saeger of West Bend; one brother-in-law, Donald (Valeria) Krause of Sheboygan Falls; nieces and nephews. Karl was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, James Radtke and LeRoy Saeger. A funeral to celebrate Karl's life will be held at St. Martin Lutheran Church located at 717 Memorial Drive, Chilton on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3 pm with the Rev. Jonathan Christensen officiating. Burial and Military Honors will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Howards Grove. Family and Friends will gather at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service at 3 pm.
