Karen Plate, 64, of 120 S. Grant St., Howards Grove, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007 peacefully at home after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer. She was born September 27, 1943 in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Jacobs) Kampmann. Karen was a graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. She married Cletus A. Plate on July 27, 1963 in Sheboygan Falls. Karen was a CNA at Sheboygan Progressive Health Care Center since 1984. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas in Elkhart Lake where she served as a lector. She was also a member of Franklin HCE, the St. Vincent DePaul Society; a 4-H Leader, Girl Scout leader, den mother and a religious education teacher for many years. Karen was an avid reader and enjoyed cross word puzzles. She was a Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan. She attended any and all events her grandchildren were involved in. Survivors include her husband Cletus; two daughters, Patty (Jeff) Wieland and Donna (Jeff) Parrish, both of Howards Grove; three sons, Mike (special friend, Kristen Leschke) Plate of Newton, Dan (Angie) Plate of Racine, Steve (Amy) Plate of Sheboygan; grandchildren, Andy and Kelly Wieland, Craig and Carlie Parrish, Nicole, Michael and Marissa Plate, Jackson and Sydney Plate, Jessica, Natalie and Alexander Plate; a brother, Ronald (Dolly) Kampmann of Sheboygan Falls; a sister-in-law, Corrine Kampmann of Sheboygan Falls; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lynn, a grandson, Scott and a brother, Robert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas, 94 N. Lincoln, Elkhart Lake, with the Rev. Daniel Lasecki, as celebrant. Burial will take place at St. George Cemetery in the Town of Wilson. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. A vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established in her name.
