Jurean H. Van Sluys, 98, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Cedar Grove Gardens. Jurean was born on September 14, 1917, in Antigo, Wisconsin, daughter of Benjamin and Alice (Wieberdink) Huenink. She was a 1935 graduate of Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove. On May 13, 1937, she married Cornelis "Con" Van Sluys in Sheboygan. Con passed away on September 27, 2008 following 71 years of marriage. Jurean was a member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, where she was active in the Women's Group. She was a member of the Homemakers Club. Jurean enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida, sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidering, card and board games, reading and wiener roasts by the pond. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter. Jurean is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Butler of Gotham, WI and Mary Ann (James) Crist of Cedar Grove; her son, Dennis Van Sluys of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, James (April) Crist, Michael and Andrew Crist, Becky (Dave) Thone, Stacy (Al) DeGroot, Amy (Hugh) Murtha, and Nicole Van Sluys; eight great-grandchildren, one great great grandaughter; one sister-in-law, Carol Van Sluys of Sheboygan Falls; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth TenHaken of Cedar Grove. Jurean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Cornelis "Con", her grandson, Christopher Van Sluys, her son-in-law, Raymond Butler, two sisters, Mary TenHaken and Arlean (LaMont) Daane; and one brother Orville (Doris and Gerdina) Huenink. Funeral services to celebrate Jurean's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Justin Sembler officiating. Burial will take place at Presbyterian Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Jurean's name for the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.
