Judith H. Nelson, 69, of Oostburg, went home to her Lord on Saturday morning, November 29, 2014 while at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center following a two year battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Judi was born on January 13, 1945 in Hinsdale, Illinois, the daughter of B. W. and Lucile (Ioas) Hines. Judi graduated from Kirkland, Illinois High School in 1963 and then attended Cosmetology School. Judi married Melburn L. Nelson on February 15, 1964 in Kirkland. Judi owned her own beauty shop for 11 years in Kirkland and later worked as office manager for the Fennimore Times Newspaper for 26 years until her retirement in 2010. Judi was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where she sang in the Senior Choir. Previously, she was an active member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore for 37 years. She was also a member of the Fennimore Lions and Kiwanis Clubs as well as the Community Theatre. She was a volunteer at the Goodwill Store and nursing home. Judi enjoyed cooking, cleaning, word puzzles, proofreading, and collected Hummels. Judi was a gracious hostess, enjoyed entertaining, and welcoming people into her home. Judi is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mel; two daughters, Jeni (Rod) Pink of Fennimore Jodi (Mike) Daane of Oostburg; seven grandchildren, Zach, Haylee, and Logan Udelhofen, Lauren and Meredith Pink, Megan and Jake Daane; two sisters-in-law, Bev Hines and LaDonna Klais, both of Fennimore; and three brothers-in-law, Merl (Yvonne) Nelson of Wentzville, MO, Keith (Connie) Nelson of Roscoe, IL, and Ken (Debbie) Nelson of Greenville. She was preceded in death by her parents, B.W. and Lucile Hines, one sister, Ann (Jack) Williams, two brothers, Gary and Scott Hines, and her parents-in-law, Quinton and Nellie Nelson. A funeral to celebrate Judi's life will take place at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday from 4-8 pm, and on Tuesday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. Additionally, a memorial service to celebrate Judi's life will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 1 pm with the Rev. Mark Hoehne officiating. Family and friends will gather at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm.
