Josephine Marie Ellarson, 94, of Cedar Grove, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Pine Haven Residential Home in Sheboygan Falls. Josephine was born on January 28, 1922 in Cedar Grove to Henry and Jennie (Lensink) Voskuil. She was a 1939 graduate of Cedar Grove High School and then attended nursing school at Deaconess Hospital in Milwaukee. On June 16, 1945 she married John Francis Ellarson in Cedar Grove. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1968. Josephine was a registered nurse for Dr. Jensen for 26 years until her retirement in 1986. Josephine was a faithful member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove. She also served with the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary. Jo, as she was often called, loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping, golfing, fishing and hunting. She provided many meals for the family thanks to her expert angling and keen marksmanship. Jo liked to drive fast and for years she got a charge out of riding her vintage Yamaha motorcycle. She grew the most beautiful flowers and had bountiful varieties of vegetables in her gardens. Jo was an avid reader and she enjoyed traveling and card playing with dear friends. For many years, she spent every Tuesday morning with a close-knit group of women, who shared life and laughter around a breakfast table. Jo will be remembered for her caring and thoughtful manner, her giving spirit and the many ways she helped others. She was a devoted follower of Jesus and cherished God's Word. She enjoyed studying the Bible, reading devotions and listening to sermons. She has left behind a treasury of notes for the next generations and a beautiful legacy of a life well-lived. Josephine is survived by her son, William (Ann) Ellarson of Jacksonville, FL; one son-in-law, Mark Miller of Spokane, WA; three grandchildren, Christopher Doolin, Jeff (Tracy) Doolin and Riann (Mike) Boyd; two great granddaughters, and one brother, Mark W. (Joyce) Voskuil of Cedar Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; daughter, Jenette; two brothers, Dr. Homer (Dorothy) Voskuil and Casper (Mary) Voskuil. A funeral service to celebrate Josephine's life will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 4:30pm at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove with Rev. David Cornette officiating. Burial will be at the Presbyterian Cemetery in the town of Holland. Relatives and friends may gather at the church on Tuesday from 3:00pm until the time of service at 4:30pm. A food and fellowship reception will be held at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund to Calvary OPC is being established in Josephine's name.
