Joshua Roethel

November 13, 1989 — January 2, 2014

Joshua J. Roethel, 24, of Waunakee and formerly of Oostburg, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at his home. Joshua was a man who loved the Lord and was deeply devoted to reading his Bible and growing in the word on a daily basis. We may draw comfort knowing he is in heaven, experiencing the most abundant joy and peace among angels, his loving Father and other loved ones. Joshua had a heart for encouraging others to turn their lives around. He walked boldly on this earth and left a path worthy of admiration. Joshua was born on November 13, 1989, in Milwaukee, WI. He was a 2008 graduate of Oostburg High School in Oostburg, WI and a 2013 graduate of Carroll University in Waukesha, WI with a Bachelor's degree in Business. Joshua was currently employed in sales with Metro Ford in Madison, WI. Joshua was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where he was active in youth group while growing up. While in high school he was involved in the show choir and enjoyed special trips to Chicago and performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He also played football, golf and wrestling. He was treasurer of the Outdoor Adventure Club at Carroll University and enjoyed ski trips with friends to Colorado and Michigan as well as trips to Chicago. Josh enjoyed the outdoors, whether building forts with his brother and neighborhood friends or fishing with beloved friends and family on Lower Buckatabon Lake at his grandparent's cottage in Conover, WI. While there, he looked forward to participating in the annual Fourth of July parade, sailing and singing around the campfire. Josh enjoyed living an active life and eating well; setting a good example for those around him. Josh had many wonderful memories growing up in the Oostburg area and spending cherished time with his loving, kind, family and his many "down to earth" friends. After leaving the Oostburg area to attend college, he frequently remarked how special the people from Oostburg and the surrounding areas were . . . good, honest people. Oostburg memories include happy family gatherings, building a beach hut with the guys, climbing trees with his brother, running through fields with friends, and doing yard work, taking family vacations and boating with his mom, dad, brother and sister. He dearly loved his beloved yellow lab Luka and had many sweet memories of time spent walking, running, and curling up on the bed after a long day. Joshua is survived by his parents, Carolyn Roethel of Waunakee and Randall Roethel of Oostburg; his twin brother, Jacob (fiance' Jessie) Roethel of Chicago; his sister, Kimberly Roethel of Oostburg; grandparents, James and Suzanne Kleiner of Surprise, AZ and Conover, WI, Russell and Delores Roethel of Oostburg; and his great grandmother, Edna Mentink of Sheboygan Falls. Josh is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and many dear friends.
