Joseph Wisse

Joseph "Joe" B. Wisse, 87, of Cedar Grove, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Joe was born September 5, 1925 in Hingham to Joe and Anna (Jensema) Wisse. Joe was very appreciative for the care given by his grandpa Jensema and aunts Grace and Mabel Jensema during his growing up years following the death of his parents. He was a 1943 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-47. On February 22, 1949, Joe married Betty Coates. He married Gladys Oosterhous Huibregtse on October 8, 1983 in Cedar Grove. Joe worked for Quick-Mix in Port Washington, the Sheboygan County Highway Department, and Pemco in Sheboygan until his retirement in 1992. Joe was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and served on the steering committee. He joined Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove in 1983 where he served as an usher and sang in the choir. He was involved with Pine Haven Christian Home where he was a member of the Board of Trustees and sang with the Men's Chorus. He was also on the Cedar Grove School Board, Village Board, and the Library Planning Committee. Joe enjoyed traveling, sheepshead, watching high school basketball, and repairing lawnmowers and snow blowers. Joe is survived by his wife, Gladys; three daughters, Joanne (Norman) De Ruyter of Cedar Grove, Judy (Bruce) Mentink of Oostburg, Joy (Dick Moths) Dempsey of Saukville; daughter-in-law, Anna Ruth Wisse of Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren, Jon (Vicki) De Ruyter, Rachel Rein, Brian (Mary) Mentink, Jeff (Jessie) Mentink, Jennifer (Michael) Falk, Wendy Wassman, James "Bo" (Anita) Ambrose, Danielle (George) Mladenov; 15 great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Ruth Ann (Larry) Wieberdink of Cedar Grove, Mary (Jeff) Pippert of Sheboygan; one step-son, Roy (Linda) Huibregtse of Cedar Grove; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one son Jerry Wisse; one grandson, Jason Mentink; one brother, Peter (Dorothy) Wisse. Funeral Services to celebrate Joe's life will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove with Rev. Ronald L. Beabout officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. A memorial fund is being established in Joe's name for Campus Life and Pine Haven Christian Home.
