John Joosse, 83, of 502 W. Willow Ave., Cedar Grove, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at St. Nicholas Hospital. He was born July 23, 1924 in Scheueningen, the Netherlands, the son of the late John and Maria (Geldof) Joosse. John attended Cedar Grove Schools, and served his country in the U.S. Army. On May 23, 1952 he married Phyllis Meerdink in Cedar Grove. John worked at Square D in Milwaukee for 20 years and then at Simplicity for 20 years. John was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where he served as elder and deacon. John enjoyed bird watching, playing scrabble and walking. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Cedar Grove; two daughters, Deborah (Gary) Meeusen of Cedar Grove, Patti Meerdink of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Sarah (Christopher) Konzak of Cedar Grove, Anne (Christopher) Hajigeorgiou of Alpharetta, Georgia, Michael Meeusen of Cedar Grove and Allison Meerdink of Sheboygan; two great granddaughters, Faith and Grace Konzak of Cedar Grove; two sisters, Marie (Paul) Nyhof and Joann (Carl) Ten Pas, both of Cedar Grove; three brothers-in-law, Al Navis of Hingham, Warren (Phyllis) Heinen, Glenn (Gail) Meerdink; one sister-in-law, Laverne Joosse of Hingham; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maria Joosse, infant brother; parents-in-law, Harry and Gladys Meerdink; four sisters, Tannie (Clarence) De Master, Maude (Lester) Heinen, Anne Navis, and Audrey Joosse; three brothers, George (Eunice) Joosse, Bill (Lillian) Joosse, Adrian Joosse; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Heinen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Earl Slotman, pastor, officiating. Family services will precede at 1:15 p.m. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the family service. A memorial fund will be established in his name for Faith Reformed Church; Words of Hope; and Cedar Grove Gardens. A special thank you to the staff of Cedar Grove Gardens, where John has resided for the last four weeks, for the loving care given to him.
