John Droge

John D. Droge, 65, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at his home. John was born on September 23, 1946 in Aurora Center Township, South Dakota, son of Jacob and Martha (Overweg) Droge. He was a 1964 graduate of Stickney High School in SD and attended Diesel School in Omaha, NE. John served as a staff sergeant in the US Army National Guard for 24 years, retiring in 1991. On May 14, 1971 he married Evelyn Ymker in Corsica, SD. John was employed with the custodial staff at Donahue & Associates for the past several years. John was a member of Netherlands Reformed Church in Sheboygan. He was a member of the American Legion in Sheboygan Falls. John enjoyed bird watching, word puzzles, NASCAR, and reading the South Dakota newspapers online. This past summer John and Evelyn took a 40th anniversary trip through Canada and Niagara Falls. John will be remembered as a simple, down to earth guy who valued his family, country, and church. John is survived by his wife, Evelyn; seven daughters, Mary (Rick) Blaha of Sheboygan Falls, Joleen (Bryan) Everhart of Crooks, SD, Anita (Chris) Gregg of Oshkosh, Jennifer (Derek) Brady of Sioux Falls, SD, Annette (Carlos) Moreira of Omro, Julie (Jim) Drew of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sheryl (significant other Eric Schuh) Droge of Sheboygan; one son, Jake (Teri) Droge of Humboldt, SD; ten grandchildren, who John always referred to as Grandpa's Boy's and Grandpa's Girls, Caleb and Olivia Blaha, Hannah, Wilson, and Quinn Droge, Kaylie Drew, Abigail and Alexis Everhart, Skyler Brady, and Vincent Gregg; two sisters, Dorothy (Norm) Muilenburg of Corsica, SD and Ilien (John) Ymker of Sioux Center, IA; one brother, Ron (Bev) Droge of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Robert John Droge. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Netherlands Reformed Church in Sheboygan with the Rev. Vogelaar officiating. Burial and military honors will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm and also at the church on Friday from 9:00 until the time of the service at 10:00 am. A memorial fund has been established in John's name.
