John DeZwarte Jr.

John DeZwarte, Jr., 89, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, with his wife Isabelle at his side. John was born on May 26, 1924, in Sheboygan, son of John Sr. and Caroline (Jost) DeZwarte. He attended Madison Elementary School and Sheboygan Falls High School. On June 19, 1946, he married Isabelle Hickenbotham at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. John was employed with Vollrath Co. for 40 years until his retirement in 1986. Prior to and during his employment at Vollrath, he ran a farm in the Town of Sheboygan Falls with his father. John was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. He was a member of a dance club called the 300 Club, the Kohler Company Quarter Century Club, and the Sheboygan Falls Snowmobile Club. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood, snowmobiling, dancing, bowling, hiking, playing cards, and jigsaw puzzles. He especially enjoyed traveling after retirement, getting together for visits with relatives and friends, and attending birthday parties. Many special memories were made of trips up-north to the cabin. John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabelle; his four daughters, Gail (Wade) Kleinhans of Sheboygan Falls, Kim (Joe) Gary of Cross Plains, Faye Calco of Sheboygan Falls, and Dawn (Chris) Ceder of Appleton; seven grandchildren, Clark (Sara) Kleinhans, Leslie (Jordan) Blad, Joy (Chad) Kohlman, Jamar (Maya) Gary, Jarel (Jessica) Gary, Keahn Gary, and Alexandra Calco; 12 great-grandchildren, Elsa, Lucia, Thomas, Magnus, Carisa, Kaylee, Isaac, Cora, Sadie, Lucius, Zamara, and Sevi; one sister, Caroline Stroschein; and one sister-in-law, Doris Dassow. John is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Barry Kleinhans and Keegan Gary; one half-sister, Marian; two half-brothers, Elwood and Melbourne; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mae (Elton) Horneck; and two brothers-in-law, Wally Stroschein and Helmuth Dassow. Funeral services to celebrate John's life will be held 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Tom Gudmundson officiating. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Town of Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls immediately following the service until 7:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in John's name.
