John J. Berceau, 76, of 149 Westridge Drive, Sheboygan Falls died on Sunday night, September 5, 2010 at the Sheboygan Aurora Medical Center. . John was born on December 14, 1933 in Green Bay, the son of the late Elmer and Luella (Haevers) Berceau. John graduated from Green Bay Central High School in 1952 and then completed his bachelor and masters degrees at St. Norbert College and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. John served in the US Army from 1954-56. On April 2, 1956 he married Lois Huempfner in Wausaukee. John was a science and driver education teacher for over 34 years. He started his teaching career at Johnson Creek Schools in 1959. He then moved to Sheboygan Falls in 1964 where he taught until his retirement in 1993. John was an active and devoted member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, where he was a daily Mass attendee, served on the parish council, was an usher, CCD teacher, lecturer, and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a volunteer for the Trees for Tomorrow Program. John considered his faith and his family to be of utmost priority, and had a strong work ethic, all traits that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, loved the outdoors and nature, gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, downhill skiing, golf, raising hunting dogs, reading, dancing, furniture refinishing, and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Lois; three daughters, Rebecca (Duane "Buck") Smith of Waupun, Michelle (Gregory) Gunderson of Milwaukee, Nicole (Scott) Kusky of Rochester Hills, Michigan; two sons, James (friend Samantha) Berceau of Oconto Falls, and Paul (Sue) Berceau of Sheboygan Falls; 15 grandchildren, Emily and Erik Smith, Justin and Andrew Gunderson, Noah, Elijah, and Sarah Kusky, Wade, Tara, Laura, and Jacob Berceau, Michael, Kayla, Trevor, and Chad Berceau; two great grandchildren, Patience and Nevaeh Berceau; three sisters, Antoinette Berceau of Brookfield, Mary (Roger) DeGroot of Green Bay, and Clare (James) Burke of Crystal Lake, Illinois; one brother, James Berceau of Green Bay; four sisters-in-law, Darlene (Jerry) Wojcik, Marilyn (Walter) Wickman, Bonnie (Jeff) Deiner, all of Wausaukee, and Diane (Joe) Villanueva of North Carolina; and one brother-in-law, Don (Mary Catherine) Huempfner of Fond du Lac. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Carol Berceau; and parents-in-law, Albert and Eva Huempfner; four brothers-in-law, Richard, Robert, Bill (Marie), and Dave (Dorothy) Huempfner. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Wednesday from 4-8 pm, and on Thursday, at church, from 9:30 until the time of Mass at 10:30 am.
