Jerome C. Salter, 69, of 817A S 17th Street, Sheboygan, died at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice on Monday, May 18, 2009 following a brief illness. Jerome was born on December 4, 1939 in Sheboygan, son of the late William "Earl" Salter and Mary Louise (Hemschemeyer) Salter. He attended St. Mary's School in Sheboygan Falls. Jerome was employed with the Hoffbrau in Sheboygan for several years. He enjoyed watching wrestling and bicycling. Survivors include; three sisters, Katherine "Kay" (Dick) Grauman of Sheboygan Falls, Patricia Salter of Sheboygan, and Dorothy Schueffner of Sheboygan Falls; eleven nieces and nephews; and 20 grandnieces and grandnephews. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Mary Lou Kildea; 2 nieces; and one nephew. Jerry faced many challenges not easily understood by society, from early childhood into retirement. His gift to our family was a lesson in acceptance and love. Jerry will be missed by his entire family, but particularly by his sister Pat who watched over him and guided him for more than 25 years. The gentle hands and caring hearts of the staff at Sharon S Richardson Community Hospice helped Jerry leave this life with dignity and compassion that eluded him during his earthly journey. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. A private family service will be held and burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls.
