Jeanette Hendrikse, 93, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Morningside Nursing Home. Jeanette was born on January 22, 1920, in McBain, MI, daughter of John and Reka (Meekhof) Van Houten. She was a 1938 high school graduate in McBain, MI and attended Teacher College in Michigan. On April 11, 1947, she married John Hendrikse of Sheboygan in McBain. John passed away on December 12, 1998. She was a third grade teacher at Sheboygan Christian School for 20 years, and later often volunteered there. Jeanette was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan, where she started the Coffee Break Ministry, was a Sunday school teacher, and was active in the choir and ladies Bible studies. She and her husband, John, also provided foster care for numerous infants and children. Jeanette enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, entertaining, ceramics, and interior decorating. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, music, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble. Jeanette is survived by her son, Randy (Kate) Hendrikse of Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Chris (Kim) Hendrikse of Sheboygan and TJ (Laura) Hendrikse of Sheboygan; eight great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Samuel, and Caleb Hendrikse, Zachary, Tanner, Justin, and Madison Hendrikse; two brothers, Marvin (Freida) Van Houten of Arizona and Jay Van Houten of Michigan; four sisters-in-law, Rosemary Van Houten of Grand Rapids, MI, Carol Van Houten of Escondido, CA, Irene Van Houten of Michigan, and Carrie (Stuart) VanderWoude of Crestwood, IL; and one brother-in-law, Leonard Kloet of Grand Rapids, MI. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, John, three sisters, Rose (Henry) Doll, Bea (Peter) DeRuyter, and Esther Van Houten, three brothers, Peter (Annie) Van Houten, Richard Van Houten, and Fred Van Houten. A memorial service to celebrate Jeanette's life will be held at noon on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan with Rev. Larry Meyer officiating. Inurnment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at noon. A memorial fund has been established in Jeanette's name for Sheboygan County Christian High School.
