Jason B. Mentink, 25, of Milwaukee and formerly of Oostburg, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday night, January 28, 2010 while playing basketball at the Cousins Center in Milwaukee. Jason was born on March 20, 1984 in Sheboygan, the son of Bruce and Judy (Wisse) Mentink. He attended Oostburg Christian School and graduated from Sheboygan County Christian High School in 2002. Jason received his BS degree in Finance and Accounting from UW-Sheboygan and UW-Milwaukee. On August 27, 2004 he married his high school friend, Danielle Sanders in Belgium. Jason was employed with Stark Roth Investments in Milwaukee as an accountant until the time of his death. Jason was a member of Life Church in Germantown where he was active as a small group leader and member of the Young Couples Ministry. He enjoyed any electronic gadget and sports; in particular, tennis, soccer, and basketball. Jason had a strong Christian witness in his every day life, shown by his personal faith and lifestyle. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, who was genuine, with an engaging smile. Jason was an awesome husband, an incredibly loving father; devoting his life to his "three girls". Survivors include his wife, Danielle; his two daughters, Niya and Asia Mentink, all of Milwaukee; his parents, Bruce and Judy (Wisse) Mentink of Oostburg; two brothers, Brian (Mary) Mentink of Oostburg and Jeff (Jessie) Mentink of Sheboygan; his parents-in-law, Jim and Pam (Wrobel) Sanders of Cascade; grandparents, Arvin Mentink of Oostburg, Joe and Gladys Wisse of Cedar Grove, Jerry and Betty DeRuyter of Sheboygan, Margaret Wrobel of Cascade, and Frederick and Pearl Sanders of Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law, Amanda (Tim) Koenig of Grafton and Natasha (John) Mazza of Delafield; one brother-in-law, Nick (Tracey) Meyer of Jacksonville, FL; nieces and nephews, Devyn, Gavyn, Isaiah, and Elijah Mentink, Abigail and Isabella Koenig, and Liam Mazza. Jason was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carsyn Mentink; and his grandparents, Helen Mentink and Frank Wrobel. A celebration of Jason's life will take place at the funeral service to be held at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Peter Fischer, Rev Dr. Les Kuiper, and Pastor Eva Lepa officiating. A family service will take place in the fellowship hall at 10:15 am. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday from 3-8 pm, and on Wednesday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am.
