Cpl. Jan VanWageningen Jr. 31, of 1020 Center Avenue, Cleveland died at his home on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2009 following a battle with cancer. Jan was born on December 10, 1977 in Pequannock, NJ, the son of Jan VanWageningen Sr. and Sandra (VanGrouw) VanSweden. He graduated from Ebenezer High School in Sheboygan in 1996. He was a proud US Marine having reached the rank of Corporal. He served from 1999-2003 during which time he was part of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraq Freedom. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Sheboygan, and the Wisconsin Disabled Veterans Assoc. He enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, and building models of cars, planes and boats. Jan is survived by an infant son, Brayden John VanWageningen of Cleveland; his father, Jan VanWageningen Sr. of NJ; mother and step father, Sandra and John VanSweden of Cleveland; three sisters, Dawn VanWageningen, Laura (Kyle) Grusznski, both of Cleveland and Shannon VanWageningen of NJ; five brothers, Gary (Amy) VanSweden of NJ, Brian (fiancé Lindsay Hansen) VanWageningen of Howards Grove, Jeff VanWageningen of Cleveland, Doug and Dennis VanWageningen, both of NJ; his grandparents, William and Dena VanGrouw of NJ, Martha VanSweden; his great grandmother, Saatie Hof, all of NJ, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant niece, Breanna Lynn VanSweden; an uncle, Leonard VanGrouw; and his grandparents, Maude and Hendrik VanWageningen and John VanSweden Sr. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 10 am. with the Rev. Evert Adams officiating. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Cemetery in the Town of Mosel. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 4-8 pm, and on Saturday from 9 am until the time of the service at 10 am.
