Jan A. Jones, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2016, at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. Jan was born on February 10, 1938 in Covington, KY, the son of William Mattic and Guarner (Gray) Jones. He graduated from Holmes High School and then attended the University of Cincinnati. On April 28, 1973 he married Celene (Menzer) Ramey at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan. Jan worked at the Kohler Co. for over 22 years before his retirement in 2000. During retirement Jan worked as a mentor to men who were being released from prison, helping them find jobs, housing, and starting a new life. Jan's favorite thing to do was to share God's Word and express God's love for people. He and his family had numerous Bible Studies in their home over the years. Jan was a respected adult Bible Study teacher at the Evangelical Free Church in Sheboygan. Jan was known to have written letters to the editor, but will be most remembered for his genuine love for people and great "bear hugs". Jan is survived by his wife of 42years, Celene; his 2 daughters, Diane (Steven) Frakes of Florence, KY and Dawn (Steven) Terrien of Sheboygan; his son, Darrick (Amy) Jones of Atkins, Iowa; six grandchildren, Joshua Terrien, Adam (Kara) Frakes, Sarah (Keith) Dixon, Abigail, David, and Samuel Jones; four great grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald (Vivian) Jones of West Chester, Ohio and Jerry (Betty) Jones of Omaha, Nebraska. Jan was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, an infant, Ian Jones, Nancy (Ray) Cummins, and Guarner (Robert) Emmert; and two brothers, William Jr. (Alice) Jones and Lane (Jewel) Jones. A memorial service to celebrate Jan's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at the Evangelical Free Church of Sheboygan with Rev. Jon MacDonald officiating. Inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Town of Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may gather at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm.
