James O. Harmuth, 83, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday morning, April 3, 2014. James was born on April 19, 1930, in Hungary, son of Imre and Maria Harmuth. He attended school in Hungary. As a teenager during the war James became familiar with service men in the US Army Air Corps. Later he was sponsored by several of them to come to the United States. He worked as a cook on the ship enroute to America. The Army Air Corps then arranged employment for him at Heinemann Kitchens after he arrived here. He later became a packaging machinist at Rock-tenn in Milwaukee for 44 years until his retirement in 1995. He met Anna Schoenfeld at the Croatian Hall in Milwaukee and married her on October 24, 1954. He enjoyed bowling, yardwork, sheepshead, work, and his family. James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna; his daughter, Mary (Fiancé Robert Hubinger)Tripp of Hingham; his son, James (Ellen) Harmuth of Port Washington; one grandson, Ian Tripp, currently serving with the US Marines in Australia; one sister, Maria Oshcl of Germany; one brother, Laci (Renate) Harmuth, also of Germany; and one niece, Manuella. Funeral services to celebrate James' life will be held at Noon on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the service at Noon.
